GOLD Writing — Golden Advice
The Quickest & Easiest Way to Back Up Your Entire Medium Profile
After working so hard for so long, don’t lose everything.

I was replying to a friend recently and then I thought,
everyone should know what I do if they don’t already.
So, rephrasing this comment to Don Drewniak into a story, giving credit where credit is due, for providing a little push that got me thinking back.
“Good idea, Don. Thank you for giving me the impetus for publishing my own view publicly.
I think it’s a great technique and if it works for you, then awesome. But … hate to burst your bubble, as there are three quicker and easier ways to achieve the same result.
But then, I thought, I should really circulate this wider.
Okay; now, let me itemize my suggestions to Don following his story flow.
#1 Getting your stories into PDF
Once any Medium story is posted and can be read, simply select CTRL+P and that will initiate a printing of the html page to a printer.
Most Windows computer users — Apple users too — can just leave the default printer set to PDF. Badda-bing, badda-boom.
Instant PDF for not just your own but for others’ stories too.
#2 Converting stories from PDF into MS Word
Adobe Acrobat actually offers the easiest conversion backwards, though earlier versions of MS Word once did too.
I used to use Acrobat for bulk conversions to Word format when working desktop publishing in the oil services industry.
NOTE:
There are other word processing software that also offers the conversion from PDF into various word processing formats.
EDIT ( Friday May 13 — correction):
#3 Back up your profile, aside from your stories
Medium offers the easiest route for backing up everything you have accrued on the platform, aside from your already published stories which will live on forever even as a non-paying member.
There’s excellent data from your profile you don’t want to lose.
NOTE: this will back up your entire drafts collection too.
Simply go to your settings and scroll down into the Account section just above Membership.
Then, select Download .zip in the Download Your Information section.
You should see something similar to this before you select the button.
Once you select Download .zip, the screen changes to:
Select Export and you get your entire Medium profile in one shot.
Go give it a try and see how it works for you.
Definitely a lot quicker than saving to PDFs and converting formats.
P.S. I was doing the same as Don until I discovered the Download … feature in my settings. Now I just go download my entire profile — not published stories — about once a month. I found I didn’t have to worry about my existing published stuff until much later if I wanted it elsewhere.

Hope this answers your questions on that story, for those that were uncertain.
